Sperm donation is using another man’s sperms in egg insemination operation. In cases which there is no sperm, the sperm is not suitable for use or the use of sperm is inconvenient due to diseases, someone else’ssperm can be used. Sperm donation is a method which is also used in single women.
For which patients sperm donation is recommended?
- Cannot obtain sperm in azoospermia-micTESE or TESE
- Having bad results in IVF treatment because of quality of sperm
- Man’s having a genetic disease which cannot be operated in embryos
- The man has a viral disease that cannot be cleared from semen
- Detection of severe chromosomal abnormality in sperm

How individuals are chosen for sperm donation?
Sperm donors are chosen from sperm bank. Every donor has a certificate about disease teaselling. It is chosen from European sperm bank according to recipient’s physical characteristics or blood type.
How the preparations are made?
For sperm use, woman’s preliminary is necessary. Fort this woman is given some hormone drugs to improve her eggs following some examinations. This is called ovulation induction.
Analysiss which should be done for woman
Complete blood count, blood group, PT, aPTT, HBsAg, AntiHCV, VDRL, AntiRubella IgG, TSH, FT4, Prolaktin. Also in necessary cases AMH, HSG and chromosome analysis is wanted from woman.
In order to understand woman’s egg reserve pelvic ultrasound must be done and woman’s tratment doses should be determined according to it.
Treatment is started in the 2nd or 3rd day of the period.
Hormone treatment is given to body from navel by needles for approximately 10-12 days.
After reach to a certain number and size after 35-36 hours, the eggs are collected in our center with a light sedation (OPU operation). Collected eggs and sperms of sperm donor are united in laborator environment. And embryo formation is followed. Embryos are transferred in the days between 3rd and 5th.
Transferring is a 10 minutes operation which is painless and no anesthesia required.

How is the success of sperm donation?
The main reasons which effect the success of donation are woman’s age, egg number and egg quality. Since the sperm quality is good, recipient woman’s characteristics are effective of pregnancy.
